Finding a Real Life Coach

Finding a Real Life Coach

With so many people these days calling themselves Life Coaches the task of finding a real one is daunting. So finding the right Life Coach is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. A Life Coach can make the whole process either truly worthwhile or a total nightmare. The choice you make will determine your outcome, so be wise in who you choose. Here are some of the qualities you should look for.

Trust:

Working with a Life Coach is similar to making a new friend. Expect someone you can talk to easily, both on a personal and business level. A person you can trust and feel comfortable with, someone in your corner. You will be confiding in them, so if you don’t feel comfortable or if you have the tiniest doubt in their abilities, then find another coach.

Experience:

It’s also important to work with a Life Coach who has experience and who is very knowledgeable about what he does. How do you find this out? First, trust your instincts and, second, ask questions. The more questions you ask the more informed you become.

Ask the coach, “Why should I work with you? What sets you apart from all the other Life Coaches?”, “Are you certified in NLP?” What they say is important, as is what they say they will do for you. If you find the coach struggling with the answers, tripping over words, speaking too quickly, or if you just don’t understand what he / she is talking about, then find another coach.

When a Relative or Friend says they are a Life Coach:

Maybe you have a relative who is a Life Coach and you feel some sort of obligation to work with her or him. If you don’t, maybe your spouse won’t talk to you, or you’ll be disowned by the family or even cut out of the will. Don’t let this perceived family obligation looming over your head (guilt, guilt, guilt) force you to work with them, especially when you don’t trust them and know they don’t have the experience and expertise you really seek.

Provides Contact Information:

A trustworthy life coach is one that puts his/her contact information at the bottom of each web page, since they have nothing to hide. At the very least they make it easy and painless to get in touch with them and the good one’s always respond to an inquiry within 24 hours.

Final Thoughts:

Remind yourself that working with a coach is like finding that 1 in a million person that you can totally confide in and that is truly about your best interests and success. Remember, a real coach has no agenda except your. Your friends and relatives all see you in a certain light, deep down you know this, and with that comes an agenda. Not to mention, do you think you could get mad at them if they did something wrong, without feeling like you did something wrong? Why add more stress to your life? Because they’re family? Remember, “You’re the one paying the bill.” The object here is to improve YOUR life, not supplement theirs.
